Overview: Willing to free up some space or speed-up your applications without uninstalling anything nor tweaking your system? Apps2ROM is the solution!
As some of you might know, Android system is pre-installed on its own phone space called ROM which is not accessible by user. There is usually some wasted free space there so why not using it?
When you update one of your pre-installed application (say GMail as an example), Android does not really update it but "deprecates" the pre-installed version and install the new one in your user space, which causes your available free space to get lower because you have duplicate applications.
What does Apps2ROM do:
- lists all your applications and indicates their location (System ROM or User space).
- Allows you to select the applications you want to move to your system ROM.
- Once enabled, it will automatically move selected applications and its updates to your internal ROM.
The main purpose was to eliminate duplicated application freeing up some space by moving them to system ROM but you can also move some user applications to system to free even more space!
So you selected some apps, saved your configuration and enabled Apps2ROM....Now forget about it and let it do the dirty work for you!
Each time an application you selected is updated, it will be moved to your system ROM freeing some space for you.
Info:
- You need to have ROOT access on your phone.
- Selected applications are moved during phone boot time.
- Beware not moving too many applications to system memory as there is no "move back to user space".
- Please read help menu.
- If for any reason you wish to uninstall Apps2ROM, remember to disable it BEFORE or it will continue doing its job.
FAQ:
Q: Does Apps2ROM immediately move my applications when I enable it?
A: No, applications are moved during phone boot time in order to prevent instabilities (application disappearing or crashing).
Q: Doesn't Apps2ROM slow-down my phone by checking for updated applications to move?
A: No, Apps2ROM does not launch background process so it will not slow-down your phone. Once you close the application, it stops running and will do its job on phone reboot only.
Q: Why to I need ROOT access?
A: Apps2ROM needs ROOT access in order to write in your system ROM.
Q: Isn't it dangerous to write in system ROM?
A: Apps2ROM does not touch any of your system files. At most, it overrides your deprecated applications with updated one. But be careful not letting your ROM free space drop too low! The only dangerous thing would be that you MANUALLY mapped a user application to override a system application. If you mapped a wrong system application by mistake, you can undo it through application information pop-up. No harm is done until you enable Apps2ROM AND restart your phone.
Q: You said it can speed up applications?
A: It does it indirectly. If you use some Apps2SD program, by freeing some space with Apps2ROM, you might be able to move some applications back to memory which will make them load faster.
Q: After restarting my device, applications haven't been moved.
A: First of all, Does Apps2ROM asked you for ROOT permissions the first time you enabled it? If not, there might be a problem with your ROM. Try to check if some other ROOT application properly ask you for ROOT permissions.
Then if you granted ROOT permissions to Apps2ROM, please check if after enabling it you have a file called Apps2ROM in your /system/etc/init.d/ directory. If not, that explains why it is not working.
